It's true what they say, "Time flies when you're having fun." I can hardly believe it's almost been a year since I turned my healthy lifestyle Facebook blog, {Nourish}, into this weekly column.
What is it about cold weather and comfort food? Whenever I'm needing something warm and soothing I tend to crave a big bowl of hot pasta.
I've mentioned before that I loathe the word "diet" and, of course, this includes all of those gimmicky diet books. While these days some of them do have solid nutritional information, it's the misleading titles that really bug me.
Well, people, the holidays are officially upon us. Where did this year go?
This week marks a very special anniversary. One year ago, upon losing 60 pounds the healthy way, through clean eating and plenty of exercise, I conceived the idea to use my continued weight loss journey to help and inspire others struggling with the same thing, and thus {Nourish} was born.
If variety is the spice of life then you could say my life is pretty spicy.
I'm a pretty positive, optimistic person. I like to look on the bright side of life through rose-tinted glasses. I focus on the good and pretty much just ignore the bad.
I'm a girl's girl. A supporter, encourager and cheerleader of other women doing positive things.
I'm excited to share with you a little something new I've added to my training: fasted morning cardio. Simply put, fasted morning cardio is low-intensity cardio performed in the morning before you put any food in your pie hole.
One huge misconception about weight loss that just drives me crazy is that eating healthy is too expensive. Umm, think again!
As much as I love summertime in the South, with its bikinis, tanlines and quality river time, I cannot lie: I'm pretty giddy over the early crispness in the air.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. This is very true in the {Nourish} test kitchen.
Ryan turns the big 3-0 in a few days, which reminds me that I'll also be saying good-bye to my 20s in a few months. Seven to be exact. I'm not dreading it at all; in fact, I'm pretty excited. I've waited my entire life to be 30.
Even though I really do love to cook, I sometimes get burnout from being in the kitchen every night. Every once in a while I just need a few days, or even a couple of weeks, off.
Confession: Despite having much success with my weight loss thus far and being closer than ever to my goal, my worst fear in this journey is gaining all of that weight back after working so hard to lose it.
I consider myself pretty lucky in the fact that I don't have an all-consuming sweet tooth. Don't get me wrong, I certainly have my vices when it comes to cravings -- sugar just isn't at the top of my list. Every now and then in the summer I'll have a craving for ice cream and, of course, I'll eat whatever dessert is served at parties or get-togethers. Not because I particularly want it but mainly because I'll eat pretty much anything you put in front of my face.
Change is difficult, although not impossible. Breaking a bad habit and replacing it with a new healthy habit takes a pretty serious commitment and lots of dedication. Whether it's a desire to quit smoking, eat healthy, or exercise daily, implementing a new routine can be daunting, all-consuming, and exhausting.
The South" (the saúth), noun. The place where: Tea is sweet and accents are sweeter. Summer starts in April.
Tis the season of umbrella drinks. Whether you're enjoying a piña colada at the beach, sangria at a backyard barbecue, a margarita poolside, or just an ice cold beer at the river this summer, you can still keep your bikini body in check and enjoy the occasional cocktail.
"But I hate to cook." I hear it all the time. Whether it's too time-consuming, too messy, or the end result is less than appetizing, one's disdain for sautéing, simmering and stirring seems to be the number one reason for falling off the weight loss bandwagon.
