Lowndes sheriff's office makes arrests in burglaries

Lowndes County authorities have a second suspect in custody from a mid-December burglary. Billy Ross Petty Jr., 35, of 1124 Sixth Ave. N. in Columbus, was taken into custody Sunday after a deputy saw him walking along Sixth Avenue North in Columbus, Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright said.

Lowndes man accused of having sex with teen

A 25-year-old New Hope man was arrested after authorities received information accusing him of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl. Nathan Page, of 519 Oswalt Road in the New Hope area, was arrested Jan. 5 and charged with statutory rape. Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright said the investigation started almost one month before the arrest.


Pizza deliverer robbed at gunpoint

A Domino's delivery man told police he had a gun put to his head Wednesday night. According to Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen, a Domino's chain in Columbus received a delivery order to 2212 26th St. N. The deliverer went to the location a little after 11 p.m. when two males approached the delivery man.

Police recover counterfeit money, arrest one

Area law enforcement agencies are investigating numerous reports of counterfeit money. West Point Assistant Police Chief Avery Cook said his department made one arrest Friday -- Quenton Davis, 21, of 16 Redbird Lane in Aberdeen, who was charged with counterfeiting. He was released on bond Saturday.


Smithville bank robbed; suspects in custody

SMITHVILLE -- Monroe County law enforcement officials arrested a Tupelo woman on a charge of armed robbery Tuesday after a Renasant Bank branch in Smithville was robbed at around 11:30 a.m. A male was taken into custody later in the day in Lee County but was released without being charged.
