New cafeteria program highlights importance of CMSD staff

When Paula Baker gets to work at 6:30 a.m., she has a lot of mouths to feed. Baker, for the past eight years, has been the cafeteria manager at Columbus High School. Everyday, she and her staff prepare 2,324 meals -- two for 1,162 students.

New Hope High School is getting a new field house. Lowndes County School District board members voted Friday to spend approximately $2 million on the 16,000-plus square foot building.

Meredith McClanahan Fraser remembers the dress in the 35-year-old photograph as though it were yesterday. It was the color of peaches, and an 11th-hour find. Fraser was flipping through a 1979 annual at Heritage Academy Wednesday, alongside her daughter, 1999 graduate Elizabeth Yates and 4-year-old grandson Bayn Yates, who attends junior-kindergarten.

Browning named Dispatch managing editor

William Browning has been named managing editor of The Commercial Dispatch. Browning has served as interim managing editor since August and previously as news editor. He joined the staff of The Dispatch in July 2013.
