Columbus library baseball exhibit hits home run

Special to The Dispatch

The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library calls all baseball fans to experience the love of the game with an exhibit of baseball memorabilia during May and June. A current display features the extensive collection of Tony Poss.

The exhibit includes various baseball memorabilia such as signed baseballs, photographs, bats, books, World Series tickets and programs, signed jerseys, cards, caps, cleats and much more.

Poss, Alderman for Ward 3 in Amory, has collected for more than 40 years and became interested when he met Dizzy Dean in Wren, where he grew up.

Poss went on to play little league and umpire for over 25 years. He said, "I really enjoy the older days in baseball. I have been honored to visit the homes of over 300 players in 25 years."

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Mona K. Vance at the library located at 314 Seventh St. N., at 662-329-5300.
