Local businessman and author Stuart Vance will give a book talk on his newest book, "Aviation in the Golden Triangle," Monday, Dec. 19 at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library from noon-1 p.m. Vance will also be available to sign copies of his various books.
Vance's book is about the remarkable role of Mississippi's Golden Triangle in the history of American aviation.
"Aviation in the Golden Triangle" traces the true story of the region's aviation activities, from the World War I "Jenny" through the latest unmanned aircraft (UAV). It chronicles an exciting array of aircraft, ideas, and dreams, both realized and broken. It is a story of success and failure in aircraft design and flight and a collection of unforgettable stories and colorful photographs, some of which have never before been published.
This 118-page full-color coffee table book is ideal for the person who loves aviation, airplanes, American history, or the Golden Triangle, and for people who believe in overcoming obstacles to work together to build a better place.
Vance's interest in aviation in the Golden Triangle began in the early 1960's, when he was an early proponent and supporter of the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. He was a founding commissioner of the airport and represented the City of Starkville on the board for 42 years.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Vance is a graduate of Mississippi State University and the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
Vance was co-founder of Howard Family Room Furniture, the predecessor of Arnold Industries Inc. of Starkville. He served as executive vice-president and marketing director of Arnold, an early innovator in Northeast Mississippi. Vance and his wife reside in Starkville.
The book talk will be held in the Meeting Room of the Chebie G. Bateman building of the library at 314 Seventh St. N. in Columbus. It is free and open to the public.
