While all eyes are on Christmas, the staff of Main Street Columbus is busy finalizing details for the fourth annual New Year's Eve Block Party and Ball Drop, presented this year by title sponsor Stark Aerospace with Main Street Columbus and other community sponsors.
Soon, Glenn Machine Works will bring the 10-by-10-foot ball covered with lights out of storage and ready the crane that will suspend it 100 feet in the air over Leadership Plaza on College Street, between Fourth and Fifth Streets South in downtown Columbus.
"The most dazzling ball in the state will send us into the new year," said Amber Brislin, director of Main Street Columbus.
Live music, downtown promotions and prizes highlight the award-winning New Year's Eve event.
"Festivities begin at 9 p.m. and last until after midnight," Brislin stated. "With the purchase of a block party wristband for $10 you can enjoy all the included promotions at downtown establishments, entrance to the block party, plus a chance to win $500 cash immediately after the ball drop. You do have to be present to win."
A Budweiser fire pit will also be given away at midnight, and six outdoor grills will be drawn for throughout the night.
Live music by The Scavengers is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
As well at Stark Aerospace and Main Street Columbus, sponsors include WCBI, The Link, Mitchell Distributing, The Commercial Dispatch, 99.9 The Fox and the City of Columbus.
Participating downtown businesses offering promotions for wristbands-wearers include Fuhgetaboutit, Harvey's, Huck's Place, Station 7, The Princess Theater and Zachary's. Promotion specifics will be announced soon, said Brislin.
Wristbands are available at Main Street Columbus, 107 Fifth St. N. For more information, contact MSC at 662-328-6305.
