I suppose the old adage that April showers bring May flowers still holds some merit because it’s been showering all over my roses in the backyard. It’s not even the end of the month, and I am tickled beyond belief that my roses are spilling over with little bursts of tiny colorful buds, like little gifts waiting to be opened by sunlight and more raindrops. I couldn’t be more excited.
I’m also giddy about the bright array of beauty trends on the horizon for late spring and early summer. Here are five must-haves for a colorful blooming season according to the pages of fashion magazines and beauty experts all over, creating a rainbow of style.
1. Bright neon-colored pants in hues of orange, green, blue and red are all the rage, so pull on a pair in your favorite bright shade to cheer you up during all of life’s stormy days in April. I might even don a pair of bright turquoise trousers just for the heck of it.
2. Pucker up and say “ahhhmazing” with the color of the season: tangerine. Last year it was coral, but the trend now is a deeper, more dramatic tangerine statement on the lips. Tie it in with a bag or shoes in the same hue, and you are done.
3. Bronzed, golden skin is a must for these hot Southern days, but avoid indoor tanning booths and the sunlight’s harmful rays. Opt for one of your favorite self-tanning bronzing gels. I love Lancome and L’Oreal Sublime. Remember to exfoliate first; then apply a tinted version for less streaking. Voila — instant golden goddess.
4. Usually in every spring/summer garden, one variety of flowers stands out more than others. Hair is no exception to the rule. Celebrity stylists are all abuzz about the newest haircut, the “Lob.” Think Jennifer Aniston and Heidi Klum. It’s a long bob, hence the marriage of the two words for a new style that’s bound to have you speaking a fabulous language. Well, at least you will be in the know.
5. The last must-have is probably my favorite this season. Dior has launched an eyelash curler the size of a mascara wand. It’s genius! Use it on the lashes prior to several coats of mascara for a curled, wide-eyed look bound to last all day.
So, whether the forecast calls for rain in April or flowers in May, you will be blooming in season with these newest of trends. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
