From Maurice Sendak’s classic, “In the Night Kitchen,” through the Harry Potter series, and all kinds of titles in between, children and teen literature has become a hot topic. Have you been wondering what great new books are available for kids’ summer reading? Well, so has the Friends of the Library who invited Lindsey Miller, youth services coordinator for the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System, to speak at the April 24 Table Talk and share her latest suggestions.
In addition to her work at the library, Miller currently serves as secretary/treasurer for the Mississippi Children’s Choice Award and co-chairs the Young People’s Services Round Table of the Mississippi Library Association. She is an ambassador for the First Book organization and a member of the Teen Committee for the Collaborative Summer Library Program.
Miller is a graduate of Mississippi University for Women and is currently attending the University of Southern Mississippi’s Masters Program for Library and Information Science. “As you can see, she knows her stuff,” remarked Friends board member Deborah Johnson.
Miller will talk about recently published and award-winning children and teen books, trends in this literature, and what to look for when selecting books for young people.
“This is such a dynamic area in publishing today that Lindsey also has ideas for what we, as adults, can enjoy too!” said Johnson.
Join Friends of the Library Wednesday, April 24 for this free entertaining and topical event. The library is located at 314 Seventh St. N. Bring-your-own-bag lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. Miller’s program will begin promptly at noon. As usual, Friends will provide iced tea. Everyone is welcome.
