Preparations are well underway for the Tennessee Williams Tribute and Tour of Victorian Homes Sept. 7-13 in Columbus.
One of the Tribute''s many highlights is a production of Williams'' "A Streetcar Named Desire" Sept. 7-10 by the Second Line Theatre Co. Organizers have announced an additional senior and student open rehearsal performance of "Streetcar" Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 p.m., in Rent Auditorium inside Whitfield Hall on the Mississippi University for Women campus.
In response to requests by teachers, director Rus Blackwell and the TWT committee will make the final dress rehearsal open for those who wish to attend an afternoon rather than evening performance. The Sept. 7-10 presentations are at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
Tickets for the rehearsal performance will be available at the door for $5 per person.
Teachers are encouraged to avail themselves and their students of this opportunity to view a live theatrical production of Williams'' Pulitzer Prize-winning play starring Brook Hanemann, adjunct professor in the MUW Department of Music and Theatre.
Hanemann will portray "Blanche Dubois" in the production. Blackwell''s film and television credits include "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Monster" and "One Tree Hill."
The yearly Tribute honors the great playwright born in Columbus on March 26, 1911. This year''s event features an appearance by Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis at Whitfield Hall Sept. 12.
The Tribute, sponsored by the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Columbus Cultural Heritage Foundation, also includes Victorian home tours, scholar lectures, movie showings, theatrical and musical presentations, breakfast with the scholars, catered luncheons and a special sermon at St. Paul''s Episcopal Church Sept. 13.
Tribute brochures are available at the Tennessee Williams Welcome Center, 300 Main Street, seven days a week; or visit www.muw.edu/tennesseewilliams. For more information, contact Brenda Caradine at 662-328-5413.
