Bobby Bell Hester, Distinguished Young Woman of Starkville, will be one of 33 Mississippi high school seniors competing for more than $44,500 in college scholarships when the DYW Program of 2014 begins July 18 in Meridian. The state program celebrates and spotlights the outstanding achievements of the state's best and brightest high school girls.
During the week-long program in Meridian, participants are evaluated on scholastic achievement, fitness, self-expression, talent and interview. Hester has chosen a piano solo of "I Got Rhythm" for her talent.
Bobby Bell, the daughter of Felisha and Richard Hester of Starkville, attends Starkville Academy. Her accomplishments include being chosen as a People to People Ambassador, serving as a National Honor Society member and being chosen as SA's Who's Who, Friendliest and Best Personality.
She is a member of the Anchor Club (10-11)-VP, President-elect, Tennis Team (9-11) and member of Full Out Competition Cheer Squad (10-11). Her community service activities include Anchor Club service projects and Cotton District Arts Festival Cleanup. Her interests include spending time with family and friends and playing the piano since the age of 9. She plans to attend Mississippi State University to pursue a career as a pediatric gastroenterologist.
