Don’t lie about your age; defy it. That’s not an original line, and most of you might be old enough to remember the commercials with Melanie Griffith and perhaps other actresses speaking these powerful words.
My mama had some tricks for looking youthful, many of which she shared with me. Good lighting is a girl’s best friend. Mama even had one of those electric magnifying mirrors with her choice of lighting settings from daylight to evening. She always put us boys to bed and then slipped away into the sanctity of her blue ceramic tiled bathroom to slather on night creams galore. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair was her obsession along with Oil of Olay night cream. When I close my eyes today, I can still get a whiff of her intoxicating perfume as it permeated the dark rooms at bedtime.
I have also learned a thing or two over the past few years about fooling Mother Nature and maybe even Father Time. Drinking lots of water, eating foods high in antioxidants, and taking naps now and then are paramount to staying young. Once I asked one of my 90-year-old friends how she stayed so vivacious. She smiled and told me she never misses her afternoon nap. I rest my case, pun intended.
Looking younger is not that tricky at all. When it comes to makeup, less is often more. Women who have had a few more birthdays tend to overdo it with makeup sometimes, and this habit adds years. The eyes should be lined with a smudged brown pencil, eye shadows kept warm and neutral avoiding trendy, bright hues, and only a few coats of mascara applied on the upper lashes for an instant eye lift. I love Estee Lauder Double Wear eyeliner in soft smudge brown because it’s waterproof and lasts 24 hours. Use eye drops regularly for younger, brighter eyes.
For an instant facelift without surgery, swirl blush just above the apples of the cheeks going a bit higher to draw attention upward. Also, mix a few drops of an iridescent primer into your liquid foundation to give your face an illuminated, youthful glow. One of my favorites is Estee Lauder Spotlight. The hair should glisten and shine, both in the salon and at home. Dimensional hair color is no longer an option, but a must for a younger, modern vibe. Follow these tried and true tips for looking younger, and we’ll keep your age our little secret.
