A classic tale of justice, childhood innocence and the South comes to life at Mississippi State University Oct. 21 when the Montana Repertory Theatre brings its dramatization of “To Kill a Mockingbird” to campus.
The 7:30 p.m. performance in Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall is the second in the 2009-10 Lyceum Series season.
The now-classic novel by Alabama author Harper Lee is as moving, poignant and resonant as when it first burst upon the American literary landscape in 1960, and it continues to touch each new generation of readers and theater-goers with its power and inspiration.
Available at the door, tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for MSU employees and for senior citizens (65 and over by request), and $8 for children 3-12. MSU students will be admitted free with student identification. All seats purchased at the door are general admission.
Lee”s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, now celebrating the 50th anniversary of its publication, was brought to the screen in an Academy Award-winning adaptation by Horton Foote in 1962 and was later adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel. Though more than 35 years old, the stage adaptation continues to compel and delight viewers worldwide with its warmth, wit and wisdom.
The Montana Repertory Theatre has a long history of touring American classics to cities large and small. Past seasons have included works by Tennessee Williams, Wendy Wasserstein, Neil Simon, Arthur Miller, Eugene O”Neill, Horton Foote, Ken Ludwig and William Gibson. Their artistry and strong production values have kept them returning to communities year after year.
Recent highly successful tours have included “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “Steel Magnolias.” Established as the theatre in residence at the School of Fine Arts at The University of Montana, Montana Repertory Theatre has been providing top-quality theatre to audiences across the country since 1968.
