Some women find themselves in angst over whether to bid farewell to those long tresses, but not Kim Arnold. No, ma’am, indeed! She walked through the salon doors with much more hair than she intended to leave with, and that’s, well, the long and the short of it.
Kim has done this several times, donating her ponytail to the wonderful organization Locks of Love to benefit women with hair loss. The hair is cut, gathered carefully, and recycled to make wigs to help boost self-esteem, confidence and a sense of normalcy during the stages of many diseases with hair loss as a symptom.
I applaud Kim for such a selfless act of kindness. As she covered her eyes with her hands, I chopped off more than 12 inches of hair in a split second. Of course, it was a liberating time for her because she had been attached to that ponytail for more than a year and a half. As she said goodbye to her old, grown-out strands, she welcomed the excitement of a brand new cut.
Hiding beneath all that hair was the most amazing natural curl that begged for a modern coif. I cropped it from behind, elongated the profile, and infused the interior of Kim’s cut with internal layers. The new sassier style stood up, stood out, and, best of all, got attention.
The face was given a summer glow with the help of Diorskin Nude Shimmer Healthy Glow Illuminating Powder by, well, Dior, and a romantic, fresh palette around the eyes using Lancome’s Color Design Infinite 24-Hour in Magnetic Teal. The modern summer face for me is all about a sun-kissed glow that allows you to show through, so we only used an iridescent highlighting concealer as needed and a sheer tinted moisturizer with SPF.
Seeing is believing. Kim traded in the old for the new. She gave her locks in the spirit of love for a stranger, and she got shorter, stylish locks in exchange. Doesn’t that smile say it all?
