Exercise is important, but knowing how to handle summer’s heat while working out could be a life saver.
Mississippi University for Women invites the community to a Summer’s Safe-Sweat Exercise Workshop July 19 from 8-9 a.m. at the Columbus Riverwalk, on the grassy area under the renovated bridge. The rain location is the downtown YMCA. This event is sponsored by the Passport to Wellness program, made possible by a grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.
Personal trainer Abby Malmstrom of the YMCA will conduct a 60-minute workshop on how to safely workout through the summer months. Malmstrom is the Passport to Wellness wellness leader for July and owner of Live For It All Fitness. Focus will be on safe hydration and heat rules, safe exercise techniques, safe fitness skills to slim down and tone up and how to use the Riverwalk for more than just walking.
The class will be part workout, part talk. Participants are advised to bring a mat or towel to sit on. The workshop is free.
