BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Columbus native Yvonne R. Edwards will appear at the Southern Writer’s Book Festival Aug. 23 at Barnes & Noble at The Summit in Birmingham, Alabama. She will sign copies of her book “Chester Wiggles Last Great Adventure” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In Edwards’ book, Chester Wiggles, a young rat living with his mother in a single parent home, learns about life and values — and that the world is bigger than the hole in the wall he lives in.
Edwards was a reporter with The Commercial Dispatch from 1991 to 1993. She is an alumna of Mississippi State University, the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi University for Women. She has worked as a reporter for Upscale magazine and has written for other print media.
She is the daughter of Shirley and the late Joe Edwards. Her siblings, Jabari Edwards and Lasandra Miller, reside in Columbus. Siblings Kam Ballard and Alesia Kennedy live in Birmingham. Edwards has one child, Pierce.
“I think that one has to follow his or her dreams … no matter how big or small they may appear to be,” said Edwards about her pursuit of writing. “It takes a seed to create a big tree and a few drops of water to create a lake. All possibilities were once deemed impossible.”
The Summit is located at 201 Summit Boulevard in Birmingham.
