Main Street Macon hosts an exhibition of photographs by John Gauntt, a photographer for over 60 years who chronicled the life of his family in places as varied as New Jersey, California, Guyana and Brazil.
Mississippi holds a certain fascination for Gauntt as his wife, Patricia, is a native of Big Bee Valley and a graduate of Brooksville High School. They have lived in Noxubee County for more than 25 years.
Gauntt is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and was a missionary pilot in South America for more than 20 years flying itinerate seminary professors in support of missions preaching the gospel to remote Indian tribes off the beaten track and providing air transport for mission work teams to the islands of the Caribbean.
With an eye toward the present as well as the history, Gauntt has tuned his lens on the state of Mississippi, Noxubee County and Macon. Many of the photographs in the exhibit are of familiar places and people of the community.
The public is invited to the exhibit which will hang in the gallery space of the Macon Welcome Center at 401 South Jefferson St. from Dec. 1 through Jan. 5. For more information. contact Main Street Macon at 662-574-5680.
