The stars will shine Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Plymouth Bluff Center.
A Backyard Astronomy workshop, led by David Teske of Rainwater Observatory, will provide an overview of star gazing, constellation and moon observation concepts.
Teske, a native of Duluth, Minnesota, moved to Mississippi to work at the Davis Planetarium in Jackson, which evolved into a teaching career. Since that time, he has been active in promoting astronomy and science education throughout the state.
Participants are encouraged to bring telescopes, binoculars and chairs to view the stars from the parking lot. Coffee, cocoa and cookies will be served.
Registration is not required, and the session is free and open to the public.
The program is being sponsored by Mississippi University for Women, which also operates the Plymouth Bluff Center, located at 200 Old West Point Road in Columbus.
