West Point independent filmmaker Michael Williams’ first feature-length project, “OzLand,” hits regional screens in January and February. The story of wayfarers Leif and Emri, portrayed by Zach Ratkovich, formerly of Columbus, and Glenn Payne of near Tupelo, premiered in Columbus in September 2014. It has since been submitted to more than 35 film festivals nationwide.
Utilizing an all-Mississippi crew, “OzLand” was filmed primarily at locations in North Mississippi, with an additional quarter of the footage shot in Minneola, Kansas.
The film follows Leif and Emri through a dry post-apocalyptic land until one of them discovers a copy of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” in an abandoned school. The book becomes a strong influence on Leif, challenging his beliefs, friendship and even the survival of the two travelers.
Williams also wrote and directed the short films “Lukos,” “Illumination” and “Kane.”
“OzLand” screenings scheduled to date include:
Each screening concludes with a cast/crew Q&A session. Proceeds from the events and merchandise sales support the film’s marketing, festival submission fees and the pursuit of distribution for the film.
