FRENCH CAMP — On Friday, Dec.11, at 7 p.m., the Rainwater Astronomical Association will present a revised version of its traditional program for the Christmas season. The program will be held at the Rainwater Observatory, located one mile east of the Natchez Trace Parkway, near the village of French Camp.
The presentation will examine possible astronomy links to the Christmas star story from the Bible, as well as from secular historical sources, examining what the Christmas star might have been and who the Magi were. Attendees will also see what astronomy has to say about the possible date of Jesus” birth.
The program is free and open to the public. To make arrangements to bring a group, contact the Observatory at 662-547-6377. After the talk, participants will go out to observe the sky with some of the observatory”s telescopes, weather permitting.
Rainwater Observatory will also present a series of four free public talks in January and February 2010. Information on these programs and other events at the Observatory can be found at http://rainwaterobservatory.org, or by calling 662-547-6377.
