Young area artists are invited to submit entries for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2015 Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Contest. Students in grades K-12 are encouraged to draw, paint or sketch a picture of an eligible North American waterfowl. The list of eligible fowl, found at fws.gov/juniorduck/, includes ducks, swans and geese. The winning entry will be featured on the national 2015-2016 Junior Duck Stamp.
The Mississippi contest deadline is March 15. A duck painting by 17-year-old Kayla Cauthen of Natchez last year advanced to the Top 25 in the country.
The Junior Duck Stamp Contest is an arts and science educational program designed to teach students about conservation, waterfowl and wetlands while inspiring them to use scientific skills in their artistic endeavors. State contests are held each year from February until April. State winners advance to national level, where the first place prize is $1,000.
Go to fws.gov/juniorduckstamp/ for complete contest rules. Or contact Mississippi duck stamp program coordinator Andrea Dunstan at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge, 662-323-5548 (ext. 226) or [email protected].
