In honor of Elvis Presley''s 75th birthday Friday, the Columbus Arts Council will host an Elvis open mic in the intimate Omnova Theater. The 7 p.m. show at the Rosenzweig Arts Center (RAC) at 501 Main St. in Columbus will showcase area artists performing songs by or about the boy from Tupelo who forever changed music.
"We''re inviting guests and artists to dig out those ''50s clothes for the party," said co-organizer Beverly Norris. "We''ll throw in the birthday cake and have a celebration for the King of Rock and Roll."
Among local artists confirmed to perform are Rob Harland of Starkville and Paul Brady and Margaret Mary Henry of Columbus. A planned 10-act line-up will deliver a nostalgically fun evening remembering Elvis'' career and impact. Interested in performing? Contact the RAC at 662-328-2787 or Norris at 662-549-1358 as soon as possible.
Tickets for this Omnova Series event are $8 in advance at the RAC and $10 at the door. Beverages and snacks will be available for sale. (No outside beverages, please.)
