Starkville youth earns Eagle rank

Special to The Dispatch

Cody Berryhill, a member of Starkville''s Troop 27 and a senior at Starkville High School, received his advancement to Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor ceremony held in November at Starkville''s First United Methodist Church.

In order to reach the rank of Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and complete an Eagle Scout project that benefits the community.

Cody''s project was to create an outdoor sitting area in an under-utilized location at FUMC in Starkville

The project must be more than the scout can complete on his own, therefore requiring leadership and planning to complete. The scout must also take part in a Scoutmaster Conference where he is questioned by an Advancement Board about his progress, goals and knowledge gained throughout the program.

Cody, the son of Ray and Amy Berryhill, joined scouting as a Tiger Cub in kindergarten. Under the leadership of Troop 27 Scoutmaster Artis Ford, Cody completed his Eagle Scout requirements. Dr. Don Jackson, former Troop 27 Scoutmaster, gave the Charge of the Eagle to Cody in the ceremony that was attended by fellow scouts, friends and family.

Cody presented Eagle Mentor pins to Don Jackson, Scott Branton, Brent Funderberk, Artis Ford, Robert Moorhead and Ann Johnson in recognition for their efforts on his Trail to the Eagle.
