If you''re looking to forget the winter blahs, Feb. 6 will offer a full evening of dinner and dancing, highlighted by a New York vocal artist to entertain with songs from a nostalgic era.
The Tennessee Williams Tribute Committee is producing the event to be held at the Columbus Country Club. Cabaret Night begins with a New Orleans-style buffet from 6-7:30 p.m., with dancing to recorded music of the big band era from 6-8 p.m.
Elizabeth (Beth) Bartley of New York then will lend her memorable voice -- which has been compared to Billie Holiday and Judy Garland -- to a repertoire peppered with songs such as "If I Didn''t Care" and "You Made Me Love You." The Julliard School-trained vocalist will be accompanied by Rick Montalto of Columbus. The Mississippi University for Women faculty member has performed internationally with many jazz groups, including Harry Connick. He is the former arranger and bassist for the New Orleans Pop Orchestra and served as director of the University of New Orleans Jazz Band.
As an actress, Bartley has performed in numerous productions, including Off-Broadway. She''ll present theatrical vignettes, as well as song, Feb. 6.
Brenda Caradine of Columbus will act as emcee and narrator, with other performers included in the evening''s entertainment.
Tickets are $50 per couple, or $30 per individual; reservations are required by Thursday, Feb. 4. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening. To make reservations, contact the Columbus Country Club at 662-328-4837.
Jan Swoope is the Lifestyles Editor for The Commercial Dispatch.
