The Magnolia Independent Film Festival has announced this year’s dates. The 18th annual festival will take place March 3-5 at Hollywood Premier Cinemas in Starkville.
“The Mag,” as it is affectionately known, was created in 1997 by area filmmaker Ron Tibbett. It was the first film festival to be held in Mississippi and now attracts submissions from around the world. The festival strives to provide the Golden Triangle community with an opportunity to experience the films of many talented filmmakers.
The festival will feature workshops by Nashville-based actor, director and producer Wendy Keeling. A special Mississippi filmmaker award will also be presented. A red carpet event will be held on the Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening of the festival.
A record number of filmmakers have submitted their work for possible inclusion in this year’s event. Films will be judged in seven categories: Best Feature, Best Short, Best Documentary, Best Foreign, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Student Film. One film will be win the Ron Tibbett Award.
Festival Chair Angella Baker of Starkville said, “We are very excited about the upcoming festival and hope everyone will make plans to attend.”
