Kinsley Alaya Walker, 8, of Aberdeen has been chosen out of more than 100 girls at an event in Tupelo as a National American Miss State Finalist in the 2016 Miss Mississippi Junior Pre-Teen event. She will participate in the pageant July 7-9 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the 7-12 age division. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash award and advances to the National American Miss Pageant in California.
All pageant activities are age appropriate. Girls under 12 are not allowed to wear makeup; there is no swimwear competition. Emphasis is on the importance of developing self confidence, good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals.
Walker is the daughter of Sierra Q. Walker. The elementary school student says she enjoys singing, four-wheelers, practicing modeling and jump rope.
