The Bernard Romans Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Columbus celebrated its 2016 Good Citizen State winner, Joy Carino, as she was honored at the State Conference in Jackson in February. The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science senior from Starkville is the daughter of Ric and Agnes Carino, who attended the event. MSMS Director of Academic Affairs Kelly Brown also attended.
Carino now advances to the Southeastern Division NSDAR Good Citizen competition. That winner will go on to the national level.
Carino plans to attend Mississippi State University and pursue a double major in English and math.
At MSMS, she serves as a student government senator. She is president of the MSMS Strings Club and the MSMS Poetry Club. She enjoys playing and listening to music, learning new languages and writing poetry.
Locally, the Bernard Romans Chapter recognized Good Citizen winners from three schools. Each receives a certificate and medal.
