Dr. Don Chaney will be the presenter at the annual Miller-Burdeshaw Lecture, which will be held Tuesday, April 5 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Mississippi University for Women in the Pohl Building, Room 206.
Dr. Chaney is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University, where his primary focus is on online learning, technology integration in health and professional development. He has also served as co-director of the Worksite Health Promotion program and director of the Laboratory for Distance Education Research at East Carolina University. He is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
His presentation will address the role new media has played in revolutionizing health communication. Specifically, Dr. Chaney will discuss the role health professionals have in using new media platforms to expand reach, engage constituents and harness these new platforms to improve the health of communities.
Chaney has publications in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including American Journal of Health Education, Health Education and Behavior, Journal of Medical Internet Research and Journal of School Health. Additionally, he has conducted workshops and research presentations, provided editorial contributions to multiple peer-reviewed journals, served on health education professional organizations and has been awarded multiple grants and contracts for his work in the field.
