Internationally renowned for its contemporary style, Parsons Dance will bring athleticism, personality and extraordinary artistry to the troupe''s Wednesday, March 31, appearance at Mississippi State University.
The 7:30 p.m. performance in Bettersworth Auditorium of Lee Hall is the fifth in the 2009-10 Lyceum Series season.
With 10 full-time dancers, Parsons Dance maintains a repertory of more than 60 works choreographed by David Parsons. Of these, 20 feature originally commissioned scores by leading composers and musicians, including Dave Matthews, Michael Gordon and Milton Nascimento. The company''s style is a fusion of the gesture and movement that make up the modern dance vocabulary, and the discipline and precise execution one expects from a classical company.
Parsons Dance is committed to building new audiences for contemporary dance by creating American works of unexpected artistic quality that are engaging and uplifting to audiences throughout the world. The company tours regionally, nationally and internationally. "[The] dancers are picked for their virtuosity, energy and sexiness. They attack the audience and stage like gangbusters" said Clive Barnes of the New York Post.
Tickets at the door are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors 65+ and MSU faculty and staff members. Admission for children 3-12 is $8. For more information on this program or the MSU Lyceum Series, contact the Lyceum office at 662-325-4201, or visit www.parsonsdance.org.
