Junior Auxiliary of Columbus annually participates with Girl Scouts of America in celebrating National Stand Beside Her Week. The 2016 observance was Oct. 30 through Nov. 5. The motto of Stand Beside Her is “Women and Girls Banding Together to Support One Another.” This year Junior Auxiliary of Columbus chose to honor Columbus native Dr. Pamela Lacy.
As a young girl, Lacy read an informative book about “where babies come from” and decided to pursue her dream to become a doctor. A graduate from Mississippi State University, she received a doctorate from the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann School of Medicine and then completed her residency at UTSW Parkland. Lacy was involved in research of abnormal Pap smears in pregnancy and received the Peggy J. Walley Medicus Award in 2006 as an outstanding resident. In that same year, she began her practice with Physicians and Surgeons Clinic as the clinic’s first female OB/GYN.
Lacy wears many hats and is currently the medical director of Obstetrics at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She also is an expert spokesperson on WCBI’s “Midmorning with Aundrea,” where she gives medical advice and information on women’s healthcare issues.
A member of Vibrant Church, Lacy has been involved with several of their outreach programs. Currently, she is helping by ministering with grace and love to those involved in the sex industry. They reach out to these young women by building a relationship with them, praying for them and with them, but most importantly, showing them the love of Christ.
Elise Wilson, director of Vibrant’s Outreach, said, “We are so glad you are honoring Dr. Lacy; she has been involved with several of our outreach programs and is always very giving of her time.”
“There is no question why we have chosen to honor Dr. Lacy during the Stand Beside Her week,” said Junior Auxiliary member Alicia Truesdale. “She loves her job and has a true passion for helping woman and girls through all aspects of life.”
Lacy has made it her life’s mission to help promote and aid women’s health, Truesdale added. “It is clear that she is a wonderful leader that all young girls can aspire to be one day. If you see her, shake her hand or give her a hug to thank her for all she does in our community.”
