For women who are unemployed or underemployed, Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) offers a path to improved job and life skills. Applications are currently being accepted for fall semester classes that begin Sept. 5.
CWJC, a ministry of the Golden Triangle Baptist Association and Woman’s Missionary Union, offers free educational training for women who need additional skills for life and for securing and sustaining work. Training is open to all women, regardless of religious beliefs or situations, in Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties. Program orientation will be Thursday, Aug. 31, with classes beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the CWJC site at 207 S. Lafayette St. in Starkville. Classes will be conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays through Nov. 9. In addition, time will be scheduled for program participants to complete computer lab projects. A concluding program celebration will held upon the completion of the training.
Rita Usher, CWJC site coordinator, says of the program, “CWJC strives to offer women acceptance, hope and restoration in a Christ-honoring environment. It’s an effective women helping women initiative.”
The faith-based program provides participants with guidance in gaining skills that help provide personal stability. Classes include nondenominational Bible study along with instruction in basic computer skills, communications, resume writing, interview preparation, money management, conflict and anger management, marriage and family living, time management, decision making, and preparations for meaningful employment.
CWJC volunteer Allegra Brigham said, “It’s extremely rewarding to see women making new friends — really good friends — through participation in CWJC. But even more rewarding is the opportunity to see women growing in their job and life skills, putting what they learn to good use in their daily lives, and their excitement in those accomplishments. CWJC is truly making a difference for participants and volunteers.”
For more information about the program and how to apply, interested women should contact CWJC at 662-722-3016 or email [email protected].
