MERIDIAN -- Vibrant, passionate dancing imbued with the experiences of African-American women will reach out from the stage of the MSU Riley Center in Meridian as Urban Bush Women perform on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m.

"I wanted a company that brought forth the vulnerability, sassiness and bodaciousness of the women I experienced growing up in Kansas City," said Founding Artistic Director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar.

The modern-dance troupe, based in Brooklyn, always has a purpose behind its art. It always tries, as its mission statement puts it, "to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance."

It tells those stories with excitement, energy and sheer entertainment. The company "has developed an all-encompassing approach to the human body that leaves no gesture, no limb, no heart untouched," wrote Andrew White of Broadway World. "The risks are huge, but the rewards are inestimable."

Tickets are $39 and $33. They can be purchased online at msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
