Students, faculty and the community are invited to interact with an internationally-acclaimed author as part of its Common Reading Initiative (CRI).
Harrison Scott Key will discuss his book “The World’s Largest Man” today at 6 p.m. in Nissan Auditorium in Parkinson Hall on the Mississippi University for Women campus.
“Harrison Scott Key is a dynamic and entertaining memoirist and travel writer whose coming-of-age story in Mississippi is by turns poignant and hilarious. Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to join us for this ‘Night With the Author’ to kick off the Common Read Initiative, as this dynamic and wickedly funny speaker and comedian visits The W,” said Amanda Powers, dean of Library Sciences.
Recommended by a cross-campus committee of faculty and staff for the CRI, “The World’s Largest Man” is Key’s memoir of a boy’s struggle to reconcile himself with a father it took him a lifetime to understand.
Key’s humor and nonfiction have appeared in The Best American Travel Writing, Oxford American, The New York Times, Reader’s Digest, Southern Living and Creative Nonfiction. The Memphis native has lectured, read and performed for audiences across the United States.
The CRI draws on a rich literary heritage and builds on The W’s tradition of excellence in teaching to develop an intellectual community among students, staff and faculty outside the traditional classroom.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, see muw.edu/read.
