Recognized as one of the top universities in the nation for military-connected students, Mississippi State University is adding to that reputation by launching a new concentration in military engineering for its master of engineering program.

The master of engineering concentration will be a multidisciplinary degree program that offers students flexibility as part of a planned individual program of study. It will be a 30-hour program with students required to take at least 18 hours of graduate-level engineering courses. The remaining 12 hours can be split between engineering classes and approved courses in other academic disciplines.

The military engineering concentration will be offered both online and at Mississippi State's Starkville campus.

Mississippi State is believed to be the first university in the country to offer a graduate-level concentration in military engineering that does not include an on-base component. Prospective students who are interested in learning more about the new concentration can visit bagley.msstate.edu/meng or contact Tamra Swann at [email protected]

"We're excited to offer this new concentration in military engineering to our Master's of Engineering students," said Jason Keith, dean of the Bagley College of Engineering. "Allowing students to mix engineering classes with approved classes in other campus departments gives them the flexibility to build a degree that helps them achieve their future military and engineering goals."

Mississippi State has long been recognized as one of the top military-friendly universities in the country. The university is listed among the top universities for veterans by Military Times magazine, coming in at 44th in the 2018 ranking of more than 600 colleges. The university has also earned a Military Friendly Schools Gold Medal and is listed as a "Military Spouse Friendly" school for 2018 by Victory Media.

The university was also recognized with the Patriotic Employer award by the U.S. Department of Defense's Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program.

In addition to multi-year rankings by Military Times and Military Friendly Schools, Mississippi State was designated a "Purple Heart University" in 2015 by the Military Order of the Purple Heart for outstanding service to military veterans, service members, dependents and survivors.

Most recently, the university announced a free tuition program for Mississippi National Guard service members enrolled full-time at Mississippi State.
