Author, nationally syndicated cartoonist and two-time Pulitzer finalist Marshall Ramsey will keynote the second BLUE event for Mississippi University for Women alumni and students Friday, Nov. 9 in the Pope Dining Room from 5-7:30 p.m.
BLUE (Building Leadership Understanding and Education) provides opportunities for alumni and students to continue their education, learn from others and share information. The program will include a keynote address, panels of accomplished alumni and opportunities to network.
“We have the ever-entertaining and insightful Marshall Ramsey as our guest speaker talking to us about leadership and motivation. He will be joined by an illustrious panel of W grads from across the academic spectrum,” said Audra Odom, MUW Alumni Association mentoring committee chair.
The event will feature an alumni panel including Nicole Dilg Beachum, ’08; Hayley Gilmore, ’08; Jennifer Robinson Hargett, ’07; Connie Sills Kossen, ’64; and Christie Jones Lawrence, ’81.
Bechum is the managing partner of Uptick Marketing, a digital marketing agency in Birmingham, Alabama. Under her leadership, Uptick has been recognized as one of “Birmingham’s Best Places to Work” and “Fastest Growing Companies.”
Gilmore of Columbus is a graphic designer and educator. With Ladies Who Design, she designed a series of posters, available as digital downloads for the 2016 Women’s March, one of which went viral online and featured Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia with the slogan, “A Woman’s Place is in the Resistance.”
Hargett is an instructor of nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing where she now teaches approximately 180 undergraduates.
Kossen, alongside her husband, built Kossen Equipment Inc. The company grew from three employees to 125 employees in three states.
Lawrence has extensive leadership, marketing, business development, proposal writing, training, fundraising and project management experience in both the healthcare and nonprofit sector. For 10 years, she and her husband, Andy, ran Pathways/Relationship Seminars, a $1.2 million, self-help and development nonprofit founded by Dr. Phil McGraw.
“It really should be a fun evening and a time for current members of the Long Blue Line to encourage and network with our future members,” said Odom.
