On Saturday, Feb. 9, the West Point/Clay County Arts Council will offer two weaving workshops with Shadow at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts at 235 Commerce St in downtown West Point. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 1; space is limited.
Children’s workshop
A children’s workshop for ages 10 to 16 will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn how to weave on a makeshift loom. The session will begin with explanations of weaving vocabulary and a review of different items needed for weaving. Three different weaving techniques will be explained and demonstrated during the class. After the workshop, students should have a clear understanding of how to get started weaving and possibly even complete their own mini woven tapestry.
Cost for the children’s session is $25. All supplies will be provided. The class is limited to 10 students.
Adult workshop
An adult workshop for ages 17 and up will be offered from 1-4 p.m. During this workshop participants will learn how to warp and weave on a lap loom.
“We will begin with warping the loom and explanations of weaving vocabulary,” said McKnight. Four different weaving techniques will be explained and demonstrated during class. After this workshop students should be able to successfully complete a woven tapestry.
Cost for the adult session is $50 per person or $90 if you would like to buy the loom and kit, all supplies will be provided. Class is limited to 10 people.
