MAYHEW -- East Mississippi Community College''s business and marketing management program is getting ready for StarStruck 2010, a talent competition open to the public that will award winning contestants up to $2,500 in cash and prizes. The show will be Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Lyceum auditorium at EMCC''s Golden Triangle campus in Mayhew, at 7 p.m.
Last year, Landon Duane Ewing of West Point walked away with the grand prize for his performance in the Urban/R&B category. Other winners included Bruce Johnson and Matt Warren of Columbus in the Rock/Pop category, and Ashleigh Agustin of Starkville in the Country/Gospel category.
This year, the competition is searching for talent in the same categories. Judges will select the top performance in each category, and the act with the highest score will receive the grand prize. The winner will choose between a press kit to include a three-song demo track recorded in a professional studio, website, album graphics and more or a $150 pre-paid Visa card.
The deadline to enter the contest is Oct. 8.
"We wanted to bring together some of the untouched, undiscovered talent here in the Golden Triangle, expose them and create opportunity," said EMCC marketing instructor Lori Smith.
StarStruck 2010 will feature local industry professionals and performers as judges. Beyond public and media exposure, participants will have a chance to connect to a recruiting network of industry pros looking for talent - and talent looking to connect to the entertainment industry.
