If you know me, then you know that I love glitter! Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper, anything that shines, sparkles or shimmers has made my heart beat faster.
I can''t explain it. I just know that I love it, so imagine my delight with all the shimmer in holiday makeup right now. Holiday ornaments are not the only things getting a bit of sparkle this season, because eye shadows are all about shimmer. I remember not too long ago when ladies saw glitter in eye shadows and ran the other way, deeming them too, well, too something. Guess again, ladies, because it''s time to get your shine on!
Whether at the makeup counters all over Mississippi or in my new salon, many women will still shy away from eye shadows that shimmer or lip glosses that sparkle for fear they will look too young for their age. My advice is to toss all those concerns out the window and decorate beautiful you for the holidays.
It''s all in the way you approach glitter. In elementary school, I went overboard with glitter on my shoelaces, on my Trapper Keeper, and just about everywhere a kid could think to glue, shake and spread it. As you might imagine, the elementary school playground was not always a pleasant scene for me, but I shined just the same. Mrs. Anderson, my art teacher, was right in the third grade when she told me, "A little goes a long way."
When using shimmer on the eyes, limit the sparkle from the lash line to the crease and not all over the lids. Begin with nude shimmer shades, and then move into the brighter colors. When you choose to add some glitter to the lips, paint on a shade that is transparent or lighter than the lip color for a look that is sure to brighten even the foggiest December night.
To shimmer or not to shimmer: That has been the question. The answer: Why the heck would anyone not want to shimmer when given the chance? Add some sparkle to your season, by golly!
