For a second consecutive year, the Mississippi State University Alumni Association is announcing the highest membership in its history, with a record 39,418 active members as of Dec. 31.
"Our alumni and friends have shown overwhelming support for our university," said Jimmy Abraham, associate vice president for development and alumni and the association''s executive director. "We are thankful for each and every member who has given time and resources to support Mississippi State."
Last year, the organization and its 91 chapters sponsored nearly 600 events--a record number--on campus and around the world.
"Our alumni play a vital role in the success of Mississippi State," continued Abraham. "They serve as the face of the university in their communities and spread their love of maroon and white far beyond the boundaries of our campus."
The alumni association, founded in 1885, marked its 125th anniversary on June 17, 2010.
"This past year was monumental for us," Abraham said. "With more members and events than ever before, we truly honored the spirit and work of all alumni who have come before."
The MSU Alumni Association begins its major 2011 events with the annual awards banquet and leadership conference Feb. 18-19. Some of the university''s most dedicated alumni and friends will be recognized for their support of the 133-year-old land-grant institution.
A gift or pledge of any amount to the MSU Foundation or Bulldog Club qualifies a person for active membership. Memberships are for one year, but may be renewed annually with additional financial support.
