Mr. and Mrs. Granvel Clarence Gardner Jr. of Columbus announce the wedding of their daughter, Sallie Catherine Gardner, to Samuel Griffin Metcalf of Pearl, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Russell Metcalf of Somerville, Tennessee. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Sallie Ainsworth Simmons of Columbus, and Mrs. Mary Catherine Gardner and the late Mr. Granvel Clarence Gardner Sr. of Columbus. She is a 2014 graduate of Heritage Academy and is currently a junior at Mississippi College majoring in psychology and minoring in business administration. She has been named to the Mississippi College Presidentís List and was sophomore homecoming maid in 2015. She is a member of the Nenamoosha Social Tribe and serves as historian. She is a member of the Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Club, the Mississippi Zeta Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta and MedLife. She also was on the Mississippi Womenís Cross Country and Track Team. She will attend the Master of Occupational Therapy program at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson this summer. The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Russell Metcalf of Jackson, Tennessee, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wilson Lyle Jr. of Somerville, and Ms. Margie Nell Dunivant of Henderson, Tennessee. He is a 2011 graduate of Sharkey-Issaquena Academy in Rolling Fork, and is a 2015 summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton with a degree in biology. He was on the Mississippi College Presidentís List and Mortar Board. He was named to Whoís Who Among Students and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society and Alpha Chi Honors Society. He also served as treasurer of the American Chemical Society and ran cross country and track. He is currently attending medical school at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. The couple exchanged vows at 3:30 p.m. May 27 at First Baptist Church in Columbus.
