STARKVILLE - Mississippi State University offensive guard Gabe Jackson was being named to the Outland Trophy Award watch lists and Southeastern Conference second-team offense Thursday.
The recently turned 21-year-old offensive lineman, who has started each of the 26 games he's participated in at left guard during the last two seasons for the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder was the only offensive lineman selected to the preseason All-SEC list by league's coaches Thursday. With potentially three new full-time starters, including both of the tackle positions, the Bulldogs offensive line continues to be one of the question marks heading into the 2012 campaign.
MSU defensive Josh Boyd joined Jackson on the Outland Trophy watch list. The senior from Philadelphia was also named as an All-SEC third-team defense selection.
Boyd is entering his third year as a starter at defensive tackle for the Bulldogs but first season without being lined up opposite of
Fletcher Cox in MSU's 4-3 formation scheme. With Cox, who was selected 12th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2012 National Football League Draft in April, occupying most of the attention inside the tackle box, Boyd was able to total 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season.
