During his media availability following Friday morning's football practice, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen announced that redshirt freshman Shelby Christy would miss the 2014 season with an ACL injury.

"We had one injury, Shelby Christy has torn his ACL and he will miss the season," said Mullen.

Christy sat out the 2013 season as a redshirt. A former three-star prospect from Duchtown High School in Geismar, Louisiana, Christy recorded 39 catches for 663 yards and five TDs as a senior.

The freshman was expected to provide depth for a wide receiver group that returns its top eight pass-catchers from 2013.
