Gameday Capsule: MSU at Vanderbilt

MISSISSIPPI STATE (18-7, 6-6) at VANDERBILT (9-16, 3-9)

BROADCAST INFO: 6 p.m. on SEC Network with Roy Philpott and Brooke Weisbrod, plus Neil Price and Richard Williams on the MSU Radio Network.

VANDERBILT's LAST 5: W 81-78 vs. TCU, L 83-81 OT at Kentucky, L 93-81 at Auburn, W 81-66 vs. Georgia, L 72-54 at Arkansas.

MSU's LAST 5: W 74-62 vs. Missouri, W 81-76 at South Carolina, W 72-57 vs. Georgia, W 67-63 vs. Alabama, L 89-85 OT at Missouri.

WHAT VANDERBILT'S DONE SINCE LAST MEETING: The Commodores have beaten volatile, inconsistent teams at home while having a ROUGH road schedule: Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn and Georgia, naturally all of them losses. Frankly, other than challenging Kentucky in Rupp and beating TCU at home, Vanderbilt has done exactly what you expect possibly the worst team in the SEC to do in between meetings. One thing it has established, though, is it can win at home; it's already beaten teams better than MSU on its home floor.

G 0 Saben Lee, Fr., 6'2", 174 -- 10.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.3 spg (ninth in the SEC), 15 ppg in his last two home games.

G 13 Riley LaChance, Sr., 6'2", 185 -- 12.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.0 apg, 4-16 from 3-point range in his last three games, set a season-high against MSU with seven rebounds.

G 10 Maxwell Evans, Fr., 6'2", 186 -- 3.4 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0-8 from the field in his last two games but 8-9 from the free throw line.

F 11 Jeff Roberson, Sr., 6'6", 220 -- 16.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 10-17 from the field against Auburn on Feb. 3 but 5-18 since then, 23-25 from the free throw line in his last four games.

F/C 50 Ejike Obinna, Fr., 6'10", 234 -- 3.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, only played double-digit minutes three times in conference play but has done so in his last two games.

G 1 Lamar Peters, Soph., 6'0", 185 -- 8.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.5 spg.

G 0 Nick Weatherspoon, Fr., 6'2", 195 -- 11.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1 spg, 29.2 percent 3-point shooter.

G 11 Quinndary Weatherspoon, Jr., 6'4", 205 -- 14.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.5 spg, four fouls twice in his last four games.

F 35 Aric Holman, Jr., 6'10", 225 -- 11.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg (tied for sixth in the SEC), 1.3 bpg (tied for ninth in the SEC).

F 24 Abdul Ado, R-Fr., 6'11", 250 -- 7.8 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.0 bpg, 22 steals in 24 games.

NOTES: KenPom gives Vanderbilt a 52 percent chance of winning this game with a projected final score of 71-70...Quinndary Weatherspoon needs 10 points to move into a tie for 23rd in school history, tying Erick Dampier...Vandy recently made 34 consecutive free throws, making the final four against Auburn, all 16 in the Georgia game before making the first 14 against Arkansas...Vanderbilt gets a lot of its shots blocked: 13.3 percent of its 2-point attempts get blocked, which ranks 346th in the nation out of 351 Division I teams.
