Gameday Capsule: Tennessee at MSU

TENNESSEE (21-7, 11-5) at MISSISSIPPI STATE (21-8, 9-7)

BROADCAST INFO: 6 p.m. on SEC Network with Dave Neal and Daymeon Fishback, plus Neil Price and Richard Williams on the MSU Radio Network.

TENNESSEE's LAST 5: L 78-50 at Alabama, W 70-67 vs. South Carolina, L 73-62 at Georgia, W 62-57 vs. Florida, W 73-65 at Ole Miss.

MSU's LAST 5: L 89-85 at Missouri, L 81-80 at Vanderbilt, W 79-62 vs. Ole Miss, W 93-81 at Texas A&M, W 72-68 (OT) vs. South Carolina.

TENNESSEE's RESUMÉ: The best version of Tennessee can look like a 2 or 3 seed -- like it did when it was reeling off six-straight wins, including once in Rupp Arena and once at Iowa State. Then it can look like your run of the mill 8 seed, like it did in getting blasted by Alabama in between the Kentucky and South Carolina wins, plus playing tight with a Florida team in complete freefall. What version MSU gets is anybody's guess, but let's put it this way: the good Tennessee has beaten Purdue on a neutral floor, challenged North Carolina at home and won at Vanderbilt; the bad lost to Georgia and was mighty unimpressive against Furman at home.

G 0 Jordan Bone, Soph., 6'3", 176 -- 6.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 3.8 apg but 6.3 apg over the last three games.

G 23 Jordan Bowden, Soph., 6'5", 185 -- 10.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 43.1 percent 3-point shooter, 10-13 from the free throw line over the last three games.

F 5 Admiral Schofield, Jr., 6'5", 238 -- 12.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, four turnovers in last game was a conference-play high.

F 2 Grant Williams, Soph., 6'7", 241 -- 15.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, up-and-down shooter over last four games: 7-10, 1-8, 8-13 and 3-10.

F 11 Kyle Alexander, Jr., 6'11", 220 -- 5.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg (2.4 orpg), one field goal attempt combined over his last two games.

G 1 Lamar Peters, Soph., 6'0", 185 -- 9.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.5 spg, seven 3-point attempts in each of the last two games.

G 0 Nick Weatherspoon, Fr., 6'2", 195 -- 11.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1 spg, 47.8 percent from the field, hasn't missed a free throw since Feb. 10.

G 11 Quinndary Weatherspoon, Jr., 6'4", 205 -- 14.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 49.5 percent from the field but 34.7 percent over the last two games.

F 35 Aric Holman, Jr., 6'10", 225 -- 10.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.5 bpg, three steals in the last four games.

F 24 Abdul Ado, R-Fr., 6'11", 250 -- 8.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2 bpg, only 2 steals in last 8 games after 22 in the previous 20.

NOTES: KenPom gives Tennessee a 54 percent chance of winning this game with a projected final score of 68-67...Tennessee is 15-0 this year when its opponents shoot worse than 40 percent; the flip side of that is MSU has shot 50 percent or better 12 times this year after doing so just eight times all year...MSU is averaging 5.3 blocks per game, which ranks 13th in the nation.
