A team of 113 inspectors arrived Monday at the Columbus Air Force Base for their bi-annual inspection of the unit”s compliance with regulations.
The Unit Compliance Inspection Team, composed of military and civilian experts, will review base procedures through Friday, then present a report Monday to Col. Barre Seguin.
“This inspection team is an example of your Air Force”s commitment to excellence,” Seguin said in a statement released Tuesday. “Unlike banks of Wall Street investment firms, the Air Force mission cannot fail.”
Seguin also said the inspection also makes certain the base is wisely spending taxpayers” money.
The base began preparing for the inspection in May 2008 after its last inspection, with an emphasis on data collection.
“We have most of the data available every day, (but) it must be packaged and prepared to answer the flurry of inquiries by the inspection team,” said a CAFB spokesman. “This is our World Series and our airmen have worked tirelessly to prepare the base for this event.”
Inspectors, who are assembled and staffed by the Air Education and Training Command Inspector General”s office at the Randolph Air Force Base in Texas, will give grades of “outstanding,” “excellent,” “satisfactory,” “marginal” or “unsatisfactory” in each inspection category. They”re grading standards are based on the Air Force Instructions.
Good grades garner recognition on performance reports, awards and decorations for airmen, while poor grades have to be rectified before a follow-up inspection.
“Preparation for this inspection has made our team better,” Seguin stated. “We look forward to our great airmen demonstrating their professionalism and focus on our mission with pride and passion. Positive results will go a long way toward caring for and advancing our airmen.”
After finishing their inspection, the team will return to San Antonio while Seguin briefs the 14th Flying Training Wing at 10 a.m. Monday at the Kaye Auditorium on base.
