Spring break brings smiles to children, students and parents. This week is spring break week for local students, who are getting a rest from classes and homework while parents get to spend more time with their children.
“We”re just gonna play and have a good time and relax,” Columbus resident Kim Hunt said, watching her children play at Lee Park.
She and her husband, Greg Hunt, have two children ages 7 and 2.
“We”re going to meet up with some friends later at Dwayne Hayes. It”s another recreation park in Columbus. The best thing about spring break is the kids get a break from school, gives their mind a break and we can relax as a family,” Hunt said.
Columbus resident Lisa Russell has a 5-year-old daughter she brings to Lee Park to play.
“I just had surgery so this is the first time that she”s been out since spring break started. We”re going to see Mother Goose at the library tomorrow,” she said.
Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, located at 314 7th St. N., hosts preschool storytime with Mother Goose for children ages 2-5 on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“She loves spring break because she doesn”t have to get up so early in the morning at 7,” Russell said.
Amanda O”Bryant has two children ages 10 and 5 that she brings to Lee Park to play.
“We”re just gonna play outside and enjoy the weather this week. We get to spend more time with the kids and they get to play more with their friends during the break. Every year we have play groups with my best friend. It”s sort of our spring break tradititon.”
Teenagers were shopping and spending time with friends at Leigh Mall this week.
“We like to go to the movies, go shopping and swimming,” said Balbie Franco, 13.
“We go swimming, we get to sleep late and I usually go to Memphis or Florida with my family,” said Makayla Sledge, 12.
College students also enjoy getting a break from classes, homework and campus life.
“I”m going fishing, camping and just going on the river this week,” said Bevill State Community College student Nicole Rhea, 23. “I get time away to see my family and my friends. I”m a nursing major so I hardly have time for a break.”
