A 28-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a wreck Thursday when he was accidentally run over and dragged down Main Street.
While passing in front of Propst Park, near 25th Street South, William Miller, of Carrollton, Ala., accidentally ran his new, black Suzuki motorcycle into the back of a white 2004 Ford Taurus at about 10 p.m.
Miller, who was wearing a helmet, and the motorcycle flipped over the car, witnesses told police.
While he was lying in the road, which was unlit because a street light was out, a 17-year-old woman in a black 2010 Toyota Corolla swerved to miss his motorcycle and accidentally ran over him.
His helmet was apparently caught under her car, which resulted in his being dragged more than 50 feet.
Three passersby, including witness Juice Madrid, lifted the car off the man, which may have saved his life, according to police at the scene.
“I”m just here to do the Lord”s work,” said Madrid, who had just taught a martial arts class nearby.
The cyclist was taken in critical condition to Baptist Memorial Hospital, then to a hospital in Jackson.
Miller was ticketed for driving with a suspended driver”s license and without proof of insurance, according to police. His blood was also taken for a drug and alcohol test.
A second, minor wreck was also caused by the first wreck, police said. No one was injured in that wreck.
