Crews with 4-County Electric Power Association began work to upgrade the Lakeside Substation in Clayton Village in Oktibbeha County at 7 this morning.
In a release, 4-County said that to conduct the work safely, crews must de-energize the substation. As of now, the work is scheduled to last until Thursday.
Association officials do not anticipate any customers losing power as a result of this work but the loss of a substation will put added stress on the system. Therefore, 4-County is asking customers who live in east Oktibbeha County, especially those in the Clayton Village area, to conserve power use in the afternoon periods each day from 3-7 p.m. tofday through Thursday.
4-County Manager of Public Relations Jon Turner says the conservation is simple and completely voluntary. “We are only asking members who live in the area around the substation — that is Clayton Village and east towards the county line — to just try and conserve their energy use on the afternoons while the substation is offline. If they could turn their thermostat up a degree or two to keep their air conditioner from running as much and refrain from doing some things, such as laundry or other tasks that require larger amounts of power during the times mentioned, it would help make sure we can handle our system”s demand,” said Turner.
