A 24-year-old New Hope woman has been charged with the statutory rape of a 14-year-old boy in Lowndes County.
Kimberly Smith, who was described by investigators as a “family friend” of the boy, turned herself in to the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office on Thursday. She was out this week on a $35,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, according to lead investigator Ryan Rickert.
The charge was the latest in a string of sex cases involving underage boys in the New Hope community. Last week, a New Hope High School math teacher, Katherine Robbins, pleaded not guilty to the sexual battery of a 17-year-old student Tuesday after she was indicted by a grand jury. Robbins, 40, had been on administrative leave since allegations surfaced in March.
On May 5, Christy McGough, 33, was charged with two counts of statutory rape against two 15-year-old New Hope High School students, who were released to the woman from school without parents” permission.
