A Starkville man is facing charges involving possession of child pornography, Attorney General Jim Hood said.
John A. Brown, 60, of Logan Drive, was arrested just before noon Tuesday by investigators of the Attorney General”s Cyber Crime Division/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted by Starkville Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Brown is charged with one count of possession of child pornography.
“We”ve been steadily arresting people for this crime, but we”re about to pick up some steam when the new law goes into effect July 1 that will provide us with even more resources to go after child pornographers,” said Hood.
Brown was booked into the Oktibbeha County Sheriff”s Office. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years behind bars. As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case will be prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Brandon Ogburn.
