The five men accused of capital murder in the May 20 shooting of a 19-year-old man in Lowndes County were denied bail by Justice Court Judge Chris Hemphill Wednesday.
Brandon Lakeith Brown, 25, of 516 Fifth Ave. N. in Columbus, along with Reform, Ala., residents Johnny Ray Brock Jr., 22, Richard Lamar Lee, 16, Joshua Miquel Taylor, 23, and Cameron Jacquse Merriweather, 24, were charged Friday with the shooting death of William Stallings.
Their arrests followed the discovery that investigators made three arrests based on false information last week.
Quinton Harris was released Friday, but Brown remains in jail on a $20,000 bond for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Khalid Roby is still being held in jail, even though the capital murder charges were dropped against all three.
Stallings was shot once in the back of the head after at least two men broke into a friend”s house at 850 Harrison Road in what is thought now to have been a robbery, said Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office Chief Deputy Greg Wright.
Investigators initially thought the shooting was gang-related based on Stallings” past gang affiliations as well as those of the three who were wrongfully accused of his death.
